A Palette from Field and Forest: Mushroom and Lichen Dyeing Retreat with Alissa Allen

A Palette from Field and Forest:
Mushroom and Lichen Dyeing with Alissa Allen
Lake Louise, Michigan – September 28-30, 2018
Join the Lake Charlevoix Weavers and Spinners for a weekend workshop dyeing yarn and fabric with mushrooms and lichens.
The retreat will begin with an optional afternoon foray in the woods around Lake Louise on Friday, September 28. During the foray you will learn mushroom
identification skills. Workshop check in will take place on Friday evening, followed by a potluck dinner and getting to know each other. Saturday will be devoted to using mushrooms and lichens available in our region to dye a
rainbow of sample yarns similar to those in the above photo. Each participant will receive informational materials about mushroom dyeing, and the species we
use, as well as samples of all the yarns. Saturday evening we will enjoy fellowship as we spin, knit, and work on our own projects around the fireplace. The modern lodge at Lake Louise is a comfortable facility designed for retreats and meetings; the rolling hills and woods of the grounds are extensive. Sunday morning will be devoted to using the leftover dyes on our own yarns to dye variegated skeins. An additional foray may be scheduled if time permits. The workshop ends at noon on Sunday, September 30.
No previous dyeing experience is required to join this workshop. An interest in natural dyeing, fiber work, and mushrooms will suffice. The class size is limited so do plan to register early to reserve your space. There will be a waiting list, if the class fills.

The cost for the entire workshop is $300 ($400 if you prefer a private room).
  • Workshop and foraging
  • Two nights lodging (double occupancy),
  • Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Sunday breakfast,

Please email Denise (dholmes3431@charter.net) if you have questions.
We hope you will choose to join us for this special natural dyeing weekend!
