Mushroom Dyed Silk: Mordant Painting

Friday, May 12, 2017
10:00AM– 4:00PM

Blank silk scarves will be our canvas as we explore the possibilities of design using mushroom dyes and minerals such as alum and iron. Learn how mordants and pH modifiers affect the dyes as you play with stamped, and free form designs. We will make our own foam stamps and experiment with antique block prints, leaves, paint brushes or twigs for individualized stunning results. You will learn how to work with mushroom dyes, and take home a selection of silk scarves, an instructional booklet, and a guide to the best local wild dye mushrooms. If you have stamps or tools you’d like to use or share, please bring them to class. Materials fee $25, payable to the instructor will cover stamp making kit and three blank silk scarves.

Sign up for all three classes and save 10%. Can be combined with your member discount.
